Indian monsoon floods linked to land use, not climate change, study finds

New research indicates that extensive flooding in northeastern India, which impacted over half a million people and caused at least 99 fatalities, was primarily caused by human activities such as unchecked urbanization, deforestation, and wetland destruction. The study suggests structural failures, rather than climate change, were the main drivers of the devastating monsoon floods.
