Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park to undergo oil extraction

Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda is slated for oil extraction, a development that has led to the relocation of 12 critically endangered Nubian Giraffes. The reserve is situated over 100km away from the park.

Almost half of Uganda’s oil reserves are thought to be located within Murchison Falls National Park. National parks are recognized as crucial for preserving biodiversity and combating climate change, but political and economic interests are increasingly impacting these protected areas globally.
