China’s Solar Exports Reach Record High Driven by African and Asian Demand

China achieved an all-time record in solar component exports during March 2026. The volume of exported photovoltaic panels, cells, and wafers reached a new high, as indicated by data from the Chinese customs authority.

This record export volume translated to 68 gigawatts of solar capacity. This figure represents a substantial 49% increase compared to the previous export record, which was set in August 2025. The surge in demand for Chinese solar components was particularly noted from African and Asian markets.

Experts analyzing the data attributed this substantial growth to various factors driving the adoption of solar energy in these regions. The continued expansion of renewable energy initiatives globally appears to be a key driver behind this trend. The detailed analysis was conducted by the U.K.-based energy think tank Ember.
