BRICS adopts clean tech plan, emphasizes critical mineral value addition

BRICS leaders have adopted a photovoltaic industry action plan and a broader clean-tech agenda, linking solar manufacturing, hydrogen, and energy storage with industrial development.

The New Delhi Declaration, adopted by the bloc’s 11 members, also stresses the importance of value addition in critical minerals and building resilient supply chains.

The photovoltaic industry action plan includes establishing national knowledge portals and supporting a cooperation roadmap covering technology, finance, and skills. The bloc also advanced cooperation on low-emission hydrogen, smart grids, and energy storage. Leaders affirmed commitments to reliable and diversified supply chains for critical minerals, linking their development to domestic value addition and economic diversification.

The declaration calls for “just, orderly, equitable, and inclusive energy transitions,” while acknowledging that fossil fuels will “still play an important role” in the energy mix for emerging economies.
