Cambodian commune leader champions marine conservation through community action

In Cambodia’s Koh Sdach archipelago, commune leader Sorn Srenh is driving grassroots action for marine conservation. He works with the fishing community to promote sustainable practices and protect marine biodiversity amid pressures from overfishing, plastic waste, and climate change.

Srenh collaborates with the Cambodian government’s Fisheries Administration and the NGO Fauna & Flora to establish a Marine Fisheries Management Area (MFMA) in Koh Sdach. His advocacy includes organizing community capacity building and pushing for stronger enforcement of fishing regulations, making him a key local figure in environmental change.
