Fireflies are vanishing from Bali due to habitat loss, light pollution, pesticide use, and climate change. In 2020, Wayan Wardika launched Bring Back the Light, Indonesia’s sole firefly conservation initiative.
The small team of scientists focuses on breeding fireflies for reintroduction into the wild. Wardika also emphasizes habitat protection, recognizing its necessity for sustainable population growth. He is now working to persuade local farmers to adopt organic practices and eliminate chemical use to support firefly numbers.
