Global offshore wind capacity is on track for substantial expansion, with projections indicating a quadrupling of current levels. The forecast suggests a rise from 92.5 GW in 2025 to an impressive 420 GW by the year 2035.
Despite this significant growth potential, a considerable 25 GW of projects that are ready to commence construction are currently experiencing delays. These stalled projects are attributed to a range of obstacles, including issues with grid connections, auction processes, and financing.
To address these bottlenecks and ensure the continued expansion of offshore wind power, there is a call for governments to expedite critical processes. Streamlining permitting procedures, accelerating auction timelines, and enhancing infrastructure development are highlighted as key actions needed to bolster energy security.
