US and Argentina Launch Initiative for Critical Minerals and Energy Exports

The Andes-Atlantic Corridor, announced September 23, is a joint initiative between the U.S. and Argentina designed to increase investment opportunities and strengthen supply chains for critical minerals. These minerals, including copper and lithium, are vital components for the clean energy transition.

The initiative will facilitate U.S. investment in Argentina’s mining sector and streamline the export of these critical minerals. Concurrently, it will support the continued development of the Vaca Muerta region, which holds significant oil and gas reserves.

Argentina possesses substantial reserves of copper and lithium carbonate equivalent. Its minerals are crucial for manufacturing power grid components, wind turbines, and solar panels. The country is also part of the “Lithium Triangle,” a region known for its large global lithium deposits.
