Stoke Park, a 52-hectare green space in Guildford, UK, is acting as a “living laboratory” demonstrating the multiple benefits of urban green areas. Two recent studies indicate that the park’s green spaces effectively reduce local temperatures, air pollution, and noise levels.
While previous research has established that parks cool surrounding areas and decrease pollution and noise, often extending benefits for tens or even hundreds of meters, these new studies adopt a more holistic approach. They examine multiple advantages provided by the park’s vegetation, moving beyond singular focus areas like health or overheating alone.
