York Timber Holdings has signed a 10-year renewable electricity agreement with Discovery Green for its Jessievale sawmill, set to begin in June 2026. This agreement will ensure that renewable sources supply approximately 90% of the mill’s electricity needs.
The deal provides York Timber with access to renewable electricity at scale and long-term cost certainty. Discovery Green, a subsidiary of Discovery, will facilitate this through “wheeling” agreements, where equivalent power is fed into the national grid from solar and wind producers. York Timber also operates a 700 kW solar farm at the mill.
Company officials stated the agreement will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate exposure to electricity tariff hikes and potential future carbon taxes.
