Delhi’s Kitchener Lake Faces Pollution Despite Cleaning Funds

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has highlighted severe pollution in Delhi’s Kitchener Lake. A Delhi Pollution Control Committee report found faecal coliform, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels exceeding prescribed norms.

The NGT has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to explain the ineffective utilization of contracts and account for the continued poor water quality in the lake. The applicant noted that the DDA awarded contracts for cleaning the lake, spending approximately Rs 22,58,000 and Rs 14,08,670 in different phases, but the funds do not appear to have been used effectively for cleaning the lake.
