Amazon communities face water scarcity due to mining and deforestation

Indigenous residents in the southern Peruvian Amazon report that the Inambari River has changed significantly in the last five years due to illegal mining, which has led to water loss and pollution. These communities now have to buy water for drinking.

In the Colombian Amazon, the Coreguaje people are experiencing reduced water availability around their territory, which they attribute to cattle ranching and climate change. Deforestation for cattle grazing has been linked to the drying up of water sources in their area.
