Gentio do Ouro, located in northern Bahia state, Brazil, is seeing a surge in proposals for data centers due to a surplus of wind energy. The town, already home to 28 active wind farms, now has 12 requests to connect data centers to its energy grid.
These data centers process internet activity and consume substantial amounts of energy. Their development in the region, which is home to threatened biomes and neighbors of existing wind farms, is raising concerns about new environmental impacts.
