A recent partnership between Mexico’s Pemex and Brazil’s Petrobras has drawn criticism from environmental organizations. The two-year memorandum of understanding focuses on collaboration to “increase production in deepwater” and “mature fields” in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a company press release. The agreement also mentions fossil fuel-related products such as fertilizers, biofuels, and carbon capture.
Environmentalists and energy researchers question the deal’s terms and potential repercussions, highlighting a lack of transparency. This partnership follows two significant safety incidents involving Pemex in the spring.
