At Tiyani Secondary School in South Africa’s Limpopo province, the cooking for more than 1,000 students has found a new energy source. Women preparing meals at the school are now utilizing biogas generated from cattle dung collected within the Tiyani village. This shift means they are no longer solely dependent on firewood for their culinary needs.
This community-driven initiative is being recognized by experts for its potential environmental benefits. The use of biogas is anticipated to reduce the strain on local forests, which are often a primary source of fuel. Furthermore, the process of generating biogas from cattle dung can lead to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
