World Cup heat protections inadequate, expert warns

Organizers of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup have introduced measures intended to address the anticipated extreme heat and humidity. However, a medical expert has voiced concerns that these proposed actions may fall short of sufficiently protecting both players and attendees.

In December of 2025, FIFA disclosed plans to implement three-minute hydration breaks during each half of every match. This announcement followed an assessment of the environmental conditions expected during the tournament.

The expert’s warning suggests that the current provisions might not be robust enough to mitigate the dangers posed by the significantly elevated risk of severe heat and humidity at this year’s event.
