Marathwada villages prepare for drought with water conservation efforts

The Maharashtra government declared drought in 265 of 358 talukas, with the Marathwada region severely impacted by a nearly 19 percent rainfall deficit this year.

Farmers in Masai and Dudhpuri villages of Jalna district have undertaken water conservation efforts, building and renewing recharge structures. These initiatives ensure sufficient water supply to last through winter and potentially until the next monsoon, despite many districts being identified as drought-prone.

Non-profit Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), with support from Unicef and the All India Institute of Local Self Governance, conducted workshops and encouraged voluntary labor for water harvesting in drought-prone villages.
