Taiwanese tea farmers embrace natural farming amid climate challenges

Tea farmers in Taiwan’s Alishan mountain range are turning to natural farming as climate pressures affect traditional cultivation. Lin Kuang-li, a sixth-generation tea grower in Meishan township, switched to natural farming and stopped using pesticides 30 years ago.

This approach aims to improve soil health, which has become depleted due to decades of intensive cultivation of high-mountain oolong tea varieties. The region is known for its prized kao-shan cha, grown at elevations above 1,000 meters.
