In Vietnam’s Quang Ngai province, fishermen like Vo Huu Viet are docking their boats due to soaring diesel prices. The cost of fuel, ice, and food has increased, making sea trips unprofitable.
From March 1 to April 21 of this year, fishing activities across Vietnam decreased by 18.9% compared to the same period last year, with energy-intensive trawlers seeing a 31% drop. This is exacerbated by declining fish stocks due to unsustainable fishing and climate change, along with increased international enforcement and Chinese vessel presence.
