The National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently reviewed critical issues concerning environmental management across India. In Jammu & Kashmir, the tribunal highlighted serious lapses in waste and sewage management. These included problems with floodplain processing sites and substantial gaps in legacy waste management.
The tribunal also noted the risks posed to vital wetlands, specifically mentioning Wular Lake. These findings indicate a pressing need for improved infrastructure and oversight in the region’s waste handling practices.
Separately, the NGT examined alleged encroachments impacting Goa’s Kodal wetland. This case also involved allegations against ONGC, with the company denying any links to the issues raised.
These judicial reviews underscore the ongoing efforts to address environmental violations and ensure the protection of natural resources through legal mandates.
