Total Dynamic Head Calculator

Calculate pump total dynamic head from static head, discharge pressure, pipe friction and minor losses.

Vertical elevation difference between suction water level and discharge point.
Enter 0 for an open discharge with no required residual pressure.
Additional losses from valves, bends, tees, entrances and fittings.

Method: Total dynamic head = static head + required pressure head + pipe friction loss + minor losses. Pressure is converted to metres of water using: 1 bar ≈ 10.197 m H₂O, 1 kPa ≈ 0.10197 m H₂O, and 1 psi ≈ 0.7031 m H₂O. Static head represents elevation difference. Pipe friction and minor losses represent energy lost while water moves through the system. This calculator is intended for water pumping systems. More complex systems may also require consideration of suction and discharge pressure conditions, velocity-head differences and equipment-specific hydraulic requirements.
