Method: Scope 1 includes direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the reporting organization. In this calculator: Scope 1 = Natural Gas Emissions + Diesel Emissions + Petrol / Gasoline Emissions + LPG Emissions + Refrigerant Emissions Scope 2 represents emissions associated with purchased electricity: Scope 2 = Electricity Consumption × Electricity Emission Factor Fuel emissions are calculated as: Fuel Emissions = Fuel Consumption × Applicable Emission Factor Total operational emissions are: Total = Scope 1 + Scope 2 All results are converted internally to kilograms of CO₂e and displayed in tonnes of CO₂e. Emission factors are intentionally editable. Factors vary by country, fuel specification, calorific value, reporting year and methodology. Natural gas deserves particular care: a factor expressed per cubic metre cannot be applied directly to energy consumption in kWh or MWh. Select an emission-factor unit that matches the consumption unit entered. The calculator does not estimate Scope 3 emissions. Electricity results may represent location-based or market-based Scope 2 emissions depending entirely on the emission factor entered. Formal inventories may require both results to be reported separately. Refrigerant emissions should be calculated from actual refrigerant losses and the applicable GWP methodology before being entered here.
