Method: Motor load is calculated as: Motor Load (%) = Actual Mechanical Output ÷ Rated Motor Power × 100 Unused capacity is: Unused Capacity = Rated Power − Actual Output If operating hours are entered: Annual Mechanical Energy = Actual Output Power × Operating Hours Rated motor power should represent the motor’s rated mechanical shaft output, not its electrical input power. Actual mechanical output should ideally come from shaft-power measurement or a reliable process-based estimate. Low motor load does not automatically mean a motor should be replaced. Motor efficiency, starting requirements, process variability, service factor, reliability and future load should also be considered before right-sizing. A result above 100% indicates that the entered mechanical output exceeds the rated motor output. Short-term overload may be permissible for some motors, but allowable loading depends on the motor rating, service factor, temperature and manufacturer requirements.
