Southern India braces for heavy rain, Himalayas anticipate snow

Southern India faces heavy rain and thunderstorms on November 5, with the remnants of Cyclone Murasu weakening into a low-pressure area over Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, warning of isolated heavy rainfall up to 115.5mm. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also anticipated in several southern states.

Simultaneously, a western disturbance is predicted to bring rain to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of snowfall at higher elevations. These regions could experience winds reaching 40-60 km/h. Delhi-NCR and several districts of Uttar Pradesh are also forecast to have cloudy skies and light showers, accompanied by gusty winds.

On November 4, Porbandar in Gujarat recorded the country’s highest maximum temperature at 37.7°C, while Mandi in Himachal Pradesh registered the lowest minimum temperature among plains stations at 11.9°C.
