Report Details Environmental Impact of USAID Funding Cuts

A recent analysis highlights the global environmental repercussions of USAID’s dismantling of international conservation and environment funding, amounting to nearly $1 billion. The abrupt cessation of approximately 5,200 contracts has disrupted diverse activities, including plastic waste collection in East Africa, wildlife patrols in Vietnam, and crop substitution in the Amazon.

According to the report’s authors, long-standing projects aimed at landscape protection and environmental policy support have faltered. Monica Bansal, a co-author and former director at USAID, stated this leads to a more fragmented approach to global environmental issues, leaving communities unsupported. The report, produced by One Earth Partners, is the first comprehensive review of the impact on USAID’s nature-related initiatives, utilizing data and interviews from multiple countries.
