The National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued several significant orders on environmental matters. In one case, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) reported delays in completing sewage treatment plants, citing the need for permissions from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) for discharge points.
Separately, the NGT constituted a seven-member committee to finalize the full tank level of Kerwa, Kaliasot, and Bhoj wetlands in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The committee is tasked with using geo-tagging, satellite imagery, and drone surveys to ensure accurate demarcation. The tribunal also noted that steps taken for waterbody restoration were inadequate and emphasized that areas over 2.25 hectares fall under wetland rules.
Additionally, the NGT took up a case concerning an ethanol plant in Ugar Khurd village, Belagavi district, Karnataka. The application alleges severe air, water, soil, and noise pollution from the plant, impacting local health and agriculture. The matter has been directed to be listed before the southern bench.
