A severe downpour has led to significant flooding in Istanbul, resulting in at least three fatalities and the evacuation of hundreds of stranded individuals. The heavy rain, which began Wednesday night, inundated homes, businesses, roads, and underpasses, causing traffic disruptions and sweeping away vehicles. This event marks the heaviest rainfall in the city in 83 years.
Officials reported three deaths within the city, with five individuals still missing. The circumstances of the deaths involved electrocution in a puddle, a fall on a sidewalk, and a discovery near a park. The minister for environment, urbanization and climate change linked the intense rainfall to the climate crisis, stating that climate change is impacting rainfall patterns and leading to more extreme weather events.
