Southwest monsoon activity is bringing contrasting weather conditions across India. Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar reached 40.1°C, marking it as the hottest location on Thursday.
Conversely, several states are bracing for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Madhya Pradesh, particularly its eastern regions, is under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated areas potentially receiving over 200 mm. Odisha is also forecast to experience heavy rain with thunderstorms and winds up to 40 km/h.
Other regions expected to see similar weather include Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Karnataka, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Delhi-NCR may experience light rain, offering some respite from humidity.
The India Meteorological Department attributes these conditions to a low-pressure area over eastern Madhya Pradesh and the monsoon trough. Authorities are advising caution due to the risks associated with heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds.
