India’s Monsoon Retreat Begins Amidst Continued Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds

The southwest monsoon is starting to withdraw from parts of northwest India, but heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds persist across the country. This unsettled weather is driven by low-pressure systems over Rajasthan and associated cyclonic circulations.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in northeastern, southern, and northern states, with yellow alerts issued for several areas. Delhi-NCR can expect cloudy skies and rainfall, offering some relief from humidity but maintaining unstable conditions. Farmers are advised to take precautions to protect crops and manage field drainage.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are forecast for regions including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Residents are cautioned to avoid open areas during lightning events.

The transitional weather is also causing sharp temperature variations, with some areas recording unusually high maximum and minimum temperatures. Recent rainfall has been significant in locations like Jagdalpur, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Porbandar.
