India’s monsoon is active, bringing varied weather conditions across the country. Eastern and northeastern states are anticipating heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, with yellow alerts issued. Bihar is particularly affected by a worsening flood crisis, impacting millions across 13 districts as the Ganga river rises.
Conversely, Delhi-NCR is expected to remain mostly dry with some relief from high temperatures due to northwesterly winds. Southern India, including coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, may experience intense heat and humidity, with temperatures several degrees above normal in some areas. Vellore, Tamil Nadu, recorded the country’s highest temperature at 40.4 degrees Celsius on September 8.
Residents, farmers, and fishermen have been advised to follow weather warnings. Farmers are cautioned about drainage and crop protection, while fishermen are restricted from certain sea areas. The weather department has issued forecasts for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in multiple states, including Jharkhand, Odisha, and the northeastern regions.
