A human- and farmer-centered AI model is proposed, built on public digital infrastructure, farmer data rights, and strong cooperatives.
This approach emphasizes measuring impact through farm incomes, not just app adoption. The article argues that current AI discussions often overlook the distribution of economic gains, which could accrue to platforms or input suppliers. It advocates for open and interoperable digital systems to prevent infrastructure control by a few players and empower farmer organizations.
AI interventions should be evaluated by their economic outcomes, such as changes in yields, input costs, and farmer incomes, rather than mere adoption rates. The goal is to ensure AI serves as an inclusive productivity technology that enhances farmer livelihoods.
