Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are forecast across more than a dozen Indian states as the monsoon remains active. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, urging residents to remain cautious.
A low-pressure area has shifted towards northeast Madhya Pradesh, potentially sustaining rain and thunderstorms in the region. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, eastern Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are likely in southern and eastern regions, including Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The IMD also warned of lightning and thunderstorm activity in northeastern states and parts of Uttarakhand. Farmers are advised to take preventive measures such as ensuring proper drainage, protecting crops, and securing livestock.
Eastern Madhya Pradesh faces a risk of flash floods, with authorities warning of potential waterlogging and rapid rises in water levels in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to avoid fast-moving water and flooded roads. The IMD noted that some locations recorded substantial rainfall in the preceding 24 hours.
