The Himachal Pradesh forest department is preparing to file First Information Reports (FIRs) concerning the alleged use of glyphosate on forest land. This action follows warnings from environmentalists regarding the potential impact of the herbicide on the region’s natural resources.
The alleged spraying of glyphosate on forest land in the Mandi district was reportedly for the purpose of pea cultivation. Environmental advocates have expressed significant concern that this practice poses a threat to local biodiversity, as well as the health of the soil and water bodies in the area.
Forest officials have stated that illegal crops found on the land have already been destroyed. They have also confirmed that investigation teams are actively looking into the matter. Following these investigations, FIRs will be officially filed, indicating a formal response to the alleged environmental transgression.
