Nepal is planning to relocate 18 blackbucks from the western part of the country to its south-central region. This new location is situated close to the well-known Chitwan National Park.
Officials have stated that the translocation aims to establish a new population of the antelope in a different habitat. The intention is to protect the species from potential localized disasters or disease outbreaks. However, conservationists have raised concerns regarding the selection of this particular habitat.
These conservationists are questioning whether the chosen area is indeed the most suitable for the blackbucks. Their wariness suggests a need for further evaluation of the translocation strategy and its potential impact on the species’ long-term survival. The debate highlights the complexities and differing perspectives in wildlife conservation efforts.
