In Banda Aceh, Indonesia, community fishers are encountering difficulties in maintaining their time-honored traditions. This struggle is largely attributed to the pervasive issue of plastic pollution.
Seven fishers were observed working together on Gampong Jawa Beach. They were seen pulling a substantial blue net, measuring close to half a mile, from the Indian Ocean. Surya Abid, who holds the title of panglima laot, or “sea commander,” issued instructions during the operation.
