Superb fairywrens, known for their bright plumage, are showing signs of decline in Australian parks and gardens. A long-term study conducted at the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra, monitoring the birds since 1988, has determined that the population has rapidly decreased.
Research led by the Australian National University’s Cockburn Group found that this common species is in “imminent danger.” Scientists suggest that climate change is impacting the birds’ survival. The study was published in Nature Communications.
