Garbage, plastic waste, and stagnant water are prevalent on roadsides in Delhi. The national capital generates approximately 13,500 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste each day. Currently, about 7,500 tonnes are processed daily through four waste-to-energy plants operated by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and a biogas facility run by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).
Recently, the MCD and Oil India Limited (OIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to scientifically process and dispose of an additional 800 metric tonnes of fresh municipal solid waste daily. However, visual evidence indicates a significant gap between stated intentions and actual implementation of waste management practices in Delhi.
