Method: Estimated Pickups After Compaction = Current Pickups / Compaction Ratio Pickups Avoided = Current Pickups – Estimated New Pickups Monthly Hauling Savings = Pickups Avoided x Cost per Pickup Annual Hauling Savings = Monthly Hauling Savings x 12 Net Annual Savings = Annual Hauling Savings – Annual Compactor Cost This is a screening estimate for volume-limited waste collection. Compaction reduces waste volume and may reduce pickup frequency, but it does not reduce the actual mass of waste generated. Disposal charges based on waste mass or tipping weight are therefore not assumed to decrease. Actual pickup schedules may need to use whole loads or whole pickups, so operational savings may differ from the theoretical result.
