Patricio Segura was instrumental in organizing local opposition to five proposed dams on the Baker and Pascua rivers in Chilean Patagonia. Working from Aysén, he analyzed project filings and helped residents articulate their arguments, contributing to the eventual cancellation of the HidroAysén project.
Segura, who studied journalism and moved to Coyhaique in 1995, also reported on issues such as salmon farming pollution, mining impacts, and land division. He was involved with Corporación Privada para el Desarrollo de Aysén (CODESA) and Patagonia Sin Represas, advocating for local decision-making in environmental matters.
