Refrigerant emissions are calculated using:

When leakage or release is entered as a percentage:
Refrigerant Released =
System Charge × Release Rate
For example, a system containing 100 kg of refrigerant with a 10% annual leakage rate releases:
100 × 10% = 10 kg refrigerant
If the refrigerant has a GWP of 1,430:
10 × 1,430 =
14,300 kg CO₂e
or:
14.3 tonnes CO₂e
GWP represents the warming impact of one unit mass of a greenhouse gas relative to carbon dioxide over the assessment time horizon used by the selected methodology.
GWP values can differ between IPCC assessment reports and regulatory or corporate reporting frameworks. The GWP field is therefore editable and should be checked against the methodology required for the emissions inventory.
This calculator estimates direct emissions from refrigerant release only. It does not include indirect emissions from electricity used by refrigeration or HVAC equipment.
For inventory reporting, ensure the refrigerant quantity, leakage basis and GWP source are consistent with the applicable reporting standard.
