Compressed Air Cost Calculator

Calculate compressed air energy cost, specific power and cost per 1,000 m³ from compressor power, air delivery and operating hours.

Use measured or rated delivered free-air flow on a consistent basis.

Cost per operating hour
Energy per 1,000 m³
Method: Average compressor power is estimated as: Average Power = Input Power × Load Factor Energy consumption is: Energy = Average Power × Operating Hours Electricity cost is: Cost = Energy × Electricity Tariff Specific power is calculated as: Specific Power = Compressor Input Power ÷ Air Delivery with air delivery expressed in m³/min. Total compressed-air production is based on the entered air delivery, operating hours and load factor. Cost per 1,000 m³ is: Cost per 1,000 m³ = Total Electricity Cost ÷ Total Air Produced × 1,000 This calculator assumes delivered airflow changes approximately in proportion to the entered average load factor. Real compressor performance can differ significantly at part load, particularly for load/unload and fixed-speed compressors. For a detailed compressed-air assessment, use measured compressor power and measured free-air delivery over the same operating period whenever possible. Leakage, inappropriate uses, pressure losses, dryers and ancillary equipment can materially increase the total system cost.
