Method:
Hydraulic power = ρ × g × Q × H.
For water, Q is converted internally to m³/s and head to metres.
Hydraulic power (kW) = 1000 × 9.81 × Q × H ÷ 1000.
Pump shaft power = hydraulic power ÷ pump efficiency.
Motor input power = pump shaft power ÷ motor efficiency.
Total dynamic head should include static elevation, required discharge pressure and friction losses.
Actual pump selection should be checked against the manufacturer’s pump curve at the required flow and head.
