Methodology: Petrol and diesel results estimate direct fuel-combustion CO₂ emissions. Petrol uses approximately 2.348 kg CO₂ per litre and diesel approximately 2.689 kg CO₂ per litre, derived from U.S. EPA factors of 8,887 g CO₂ per US gallon of gasoline and 10,180 g CO₂ per US gallon of diesel. Petrol hybrid vehicles use the same fuel carbon factor as petrol vehicles; their lower emissions arise from lower fuel consumption. EV results are calculated from electricity consumed × the electricity emission factor entered. This calculator estimates operational energy-related emissions only. It does not include vehicle manufacturing, battery manufacturing, fuel production, electricity infrastructure, maintenance or end-of-life emissions.
