The illegal cross-border trade of hazardous electronic waste is significantly impacting Bangladesh, transforming the nation into a net importer of e-waste. This ongoing issue stems from a lack of effective oversight concerning unlawful trade activities.
Bangladesh has established rules intended to manage e-waste and is a signatory to the Basel Convention. Furthermore, the country has implemented domestic legislation, including the Hazardous Waste (E-waste) Management Rules enacted in 2021. These measures are in place to control the influx and handling of electronic waste within its borders.
