Countries in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region will need an estimated $12.07 trillion to achieve their climate objectives, according to ICIMOD’s Climate Finance Synthesis Report. This translates to an annual requirement of approximately $768.68 billion.
China and India represent the largest portions of this financial need, collectively accounting for over 92% of the total sum. India’s specific requirement is substantial, estimated at $2.69 trillion.
The majority of India’s projected financial need is designated for adaptation measures, crucial for responding to the impacts of climate change in the region. The report underscores the scale of investment necessary for these nations to build resilience and meet their climate targets.
