Odisha Farmers Face Crop Losses After Cyclone Arnab Flooding

Cyclone Arnab caused extensive agricultural damage across southern Odisha districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal. Standing crops such as paddy, maize, pulses, and vegetables have been destroyed, leading to significant financial losses for thousands of farmers.

Farmers are concerned about their ability to repay bank loans, with many lacking crop insurance and anticipating insufficient compensation. Additionally, several villages remain without electricity nearly a week after Cyclone Arnab damaged power infrastructure. An eight-member central team has begun assessing the damage, while the Odisha government has ordered crop loss surveys for compensation purposes.
