US Contractors Linked to Illegal Amazon Tin Mining

Brazilian tin-producer White Solder is accused of acquiring minerals illegally mined in the Yanomami Indigenous Territory in the Brazilian Amazon. Investigations reveal White Solder has supplied hundreds of metric tons of tin to U.S. companies holding Department of Defense contracts.

White Solder reportedly supplied at least 525 metric tons of tin to Indium Corporation between May 2023 and August 2025. Indium Corporation subsequently supplied solder to Raytheon, a defense contractor. Additionally, White Solder allegedly supplied at least 2,400 metric tons of tin to Nathan Trotter, a U.S. manufacturer, between 2021 and 2025. The U.S. Department of Defense awarded Nathan Trotter a contract in 2024 for a tin smelting facility in Pennsylvania, intended to address supply chain vulnerabilities and counter global monopolization efforts.
