Angola faces significant environmental challenges, including climate crises such as prolonged droughts, soil degradation, and floods, which impact over 2.2 million people. Despite signing international commitments to phase out HCFCs and cut HFCs, a severe lack of data hinders the country’s ability to fight environmental crimes and conduct comparative environmental analyses.
Environmentalist Érica Tavares, co-founder of NGO EcoAngola, states that the absence of data is a primary challenge. This scarcity makes it difficult to track environmental changes and effectively address issues like forest advocacy and youth participation in sustainability debates.
