A developing low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal is forecast to intensify rainfall activity across eastern and central India. Odisha faces the greatest threat, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red and orange alerts for districts anticipating extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm, potentially causing flooding and waterlogging.
Widespread thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected across Odisha and neighboring states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. The IMD has issued yellow alerts for these regions, forecasting rainfall totals of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. The system’s development is influenced by a cyclonic circulation over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Beyond rainfall, the system brings risks of strong winds reaching 40 to 50 km/h and lightning in several affected states. Farmers are advised to prepare by ensuring drainage, protecting crops, securing livestock, and monitoring weather warnings. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is experiencing heat and humidity, with potential relief from partly cloudy skies and local rainfall expected from September 11.
