15 Fashion Brands Can Cut Bangladesh’s Emissions by 8.59 Million Tonnes

A Stand.earth analysis suggests that 15 global fashion companies sourcing from Bangladesh have the potential to help the country avoid 8.59 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2040. These companies represent 26.3% of Bangladesh’s apparel exports by weight, giving them significant influence over the sector’s energy transition.

The report, “Fashion’s Fair Share: Bangladesh Buyers’ Climate Opportunity,” highlights that the sector’s emissions are increasing. Bangladesh’s garment sector faces an energy crisis due to fossil fuel import dependence and unreliable electricity, impacting manufacturing and workers.

Currently, only two of the 15 companies, Inditex and H&M Group, have 100% renewable electricity targets for their supply chains. Stand.earth is urging brands to fund clean energy, electrification, and worker protection without increasing suppliers’ debt.
